Title: USS Independence: Under water relic from atomic bomb tests
Description: Josh Chernov, ROV Pilot on the ocean research vessel Nautilus, will lead us on the August 2016 underwater survey of the USS Independence. The Independence served in WW2 for 2 years in the Pacific Ocean, and was then one of 90 vessels in a target fleet for atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll. Damaged from the shock waves, heat and radiation, it was scuttled off San Francisco in 1951. Josh's talk will also touch on the use of ROV technologyfor underwater archaeology.
