Come join the UASBC for a tour of the 142M Cable Ship “Wave Venture”. This vessel is stationed in Victoria and is responsible for constructing and maintaining some of the fiber optic telecommunication (TV, Internet) cables which connect North America with Asia. We will learn how they grapple the cables 12,000 feet under the ocean using their ROV’s and bring them on board to their fiber optic cable repair facility, and other projects that they get involved with.
As this vessel may be stationed temporarily at Esquimalt dockyard due to cruise ship activity at Ogden Point, you will need, for security reasons, to provide your name in advance if you intend to come on this tour. Please forward your name to me by email @ josa@telus.net by Friday Sept 4 if you intend to join us on board the “Wave Venture”.
