Dear UASBC Members:
Please join the UASBC on Zoom at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 for a presentation by Bob Chaulk on the dramatic and tragic loss of the SS Atlantic, which wrecked on its approach to Halifax in the early morning of April 1, 1873.
The dramatic loss of the White Star Line’s SS Atlantic was the worst transatlantic passenger ship disaster of the 19th century, with some 550 deaths. Thirty-nine years before the Titanic (another White Star Line ship), the Atlantic loss is characterized by shocking incompetence on the part of the deck officers, bad luck, and stirring heroism on the part of a dozen fishermen who left their beds and took to their boats to save nearly 400 survivors.
If you would like to attend, please send an email to keith@bossons.ca to get instructions on how to join the meeting.Holding virtual Underwater Explorers Speakers Series presentations using Zoom is part of the UASBC’s response to the ongoing pandemic and restrictions on public gatherings. Zoom is free to participants and relatively easy to use. It provides good video conferencing and presentation capabilities and is being widely used by other organizations to host events and presentations on-line.
We hope to see you soon!
The UASBC Executive
