Maud (Baymaud) was built in 1918 for renowned polar explorer Roald Amundsen. She was the third and final vessel used by Amundsen in his polar expeditions. It was his goal to freeze Maud into the pack ice and drift to the North Pole. He was unsuccessful and the vessel was seized by creditors in Seattle in 1925. The Hudson Bay Company bought the Maud at auction and sent it to Cambridge Bay, Nunavut as a Radio Station. It sank in 1930 after the hull developed a leak. A joint UASBC expedition with the Vancouver Maritime Museum, led by James Delgado, travelled to Cambridge Bay August 11-16, 1996 to study and document the wreck. This was a once in a lifetime experience that resulted in this report report detailing her condition. 1997, 8.5" x 11", 32 pages
